Staying The Course

It can be hard to stay on track with goals, dreams and visions. Often people are faced with challenges and roadblocks which can get in the way of achieving what they desire.

One of the greatest challenges is us!

Often people get in their own way. I have certainly experienced this for myself!

In 2022 I was studying a Diploma and I experienced some life events that felt big and overwhelming. I started to tell myself that I didn’t have the time or energy to complete the course. I didn’t want to let people down and I was afraid of not doing well.

I decided to meet with my course facilitator Belinda Baillie, who also happens to be an ICF Master Certified Coach that holds the welfare and success of her students as a top priority. With Belinda’s support and encouragement, I chose to keep going.

The way I kept moving forward was to dial down the noise of the inner critic and turn up the volume of the inner coach. I used various reflective and introspective practices, including journaling, energetic hygiene and mindfulness to get out of my head and into my heart.

I learned to let go of perfection and be open to learning and messing up rather than getting it right. I learned to let go of how things should be and trust in the benevolence of the Universe. It wasn’t easy to get out of my own way, to believe in my unique potential and stay on course. But it was possible!

Having a coach or someone to support you to stay accountable to achieve what your heart desires can be valuable for staying the course. A coach will walk alongside you as you discover insights about your behaviour, assumptions and beliefs. When you have awareness, you have new choices. This can lead to goals and strategies that facilitate growth and transformational change.
